Lesson 22-4: Estate Taxes

Estate Taxes Overview

The Government imposes taxes on certain amounts on estates over a certain amount, so individuals need to be aware of them for estate planning.

Taxes assessed at the federal level are called estate taxes.  In 2015, estate taxes are not assessed unless the total estate is larger than the Federal exclusion amount – $5,430,000

Taxes assessed at the state level are called inheritance taxes.
